National Orthodontic Health Month!
DID YOU KNOW that October is National Orthodontic Health Month? That’s right! Halloween is on its way, and so are the sweets that may cause havoc for those trick-or-treaters who are going through orthodontic treatment.
This month, in particular, we ask that you be careful about what you decide to eat. We’re not saying don’t eat any candy or treats, after all, it’s Halloween! Dr. Lee ,Dr. Meyrowitz, and Dr. Malerman just want you to be careful not to consume things that might cause damage to your braces and/or prolong your treatment time.
So, how do you know which sweets are okay, and which ones to avoid?
The first rule of thumb is to use your common sense. If the candy you’re considering looks sticky, you probably should trade it in for a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup or some M&Ms. Avoid things like caramel, nuts, taffy, popcorn, licorice, bubble gum, and jelly beans. Soft chocolates and melt-in-your-mouth candies are probably your best bet.
