Combining Traditional Dental Braces with the Latest Technology
Orthodontic braces have been used for decades to correct tooth and bite misalignment in patients of all ages. Traditional braces use a bracket-and-wire system that gradually aligns your teeth over time. Orthodontists Calvin Lee and Samuel Meyrowitz offer traditional dental braces at their L&M Orthodontics offices in Doylestown and Glenside. The entire L&M Orthodontics team provides compassionate, personalized treatment supported by the latest technology. What Are Dental Braces?
Traditional braces correct crooked, overly spaced, overly crowded, and misaligned smiles. They are comprised of several parts, which work in harmony to gently and steadily align teeth. These parts include:
- Stainless steel brackets are small metal brackets that are cemented securely to the front of your natural teeth.
- Arch wires run along the arch of your smile, connecting to each bracket. The tension of the wire applies gentle pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into alignment.
- O-rings, also called ligature elastics are small elastic bands that attach your arch wires to each bracket.
- Elastics: If your braces are designed to correct malocclusion, or a misaligned bite, elastics can help the bottom and top teeth to meet properly. These O-shaped bands stretch when you open your mouth, while steadily pulling your upper or lower jaw into alignment when your jaws meet.
Personalized Orthodontic Care
Before your treatment begins, your orthodontist will create an orthodontic treatment plan using photographs, radiographs, and impressions of your teeth. When your records are complete, you will return to the office to view them and have one of our orthodontists explain your care plan. Our team is always available to provide honest answers to your treatment questions.
State-of-the-art Technology
At L&M Orthodontics, we use the latest orthodontic advancements to make your treatment efficient and comfortable. We can expedite your traditional braces treatment using a few unique instruments.
The AcceleDent™ System can significantly reduce treatment time. You will use this device for 20 minutes a day at home. The device will send micropulses to your teeth, roots and jaw bone. These pulses allow your jaw bone to regenerate and adjust faster as your teeth and roots move into alignment.
The use of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) has allowed us to treat more difficult cases with greater success using traditional orthodontics. These miniature dental implants are inserted to serve as an anchor for orthodontic tooth movement. The TAD is attached to a tooth with a small chain or wire. This creates tension, gradually moving your tooth into its new alignment without creating stress on your adjacent teeth.
After Traditional Braces
Once your teeth have been aligned, you will likely need to wear an orthodontic retainer to keep them from shifting out of place. We can provide a removable or permanent retainer for you to help keep your smile beautiful and aligned for years to come.
